Ben and the team at Children’s Fortress Africa have been able to build a new library learning centre for 100 former street children residing at the Bahati centre run by Nairobi city county.
The library was built from renovating a 40ft shipping container, it’s their 2nd shipping container library project, with the first built in nearby Kiambiu slum. Funds were used for purchase of metal and timber, and tradesman labor to renovate the container.
The aim of the project is:
- To lift education standards for former street children residing at the shelter.
- To get former street children interested in learning & to join/rejoin the Kenyan formal schooling system.
- To get former street children thinking of their future, and to reach their potential through education.
Through education, the rehabilitation of former street children from substance abuse is greatly increased by giving them a focus on education.
