For a smooth sailing love life over the holiday season, some tips from the brains behind The Gratitude Project, Angela Simson.
“It’s so easy for life to become monotonous. You drive the same way to work each day, do the same repetitive tasks, speak to the same people about the same issues and then go home to make roast chicken and broccoli YET AGAIN.
This is the time when our mind starts to focus on what isn’t satisfying us. Our uninspiring career. A slightly less than passionate relationship with your partner. The same cafes and restaurants every weekend.
So passion slips. It becomes non-existent. I find this so often with my clients, they become bored with their life and can’t even imagine feeling passionate or excited about something in their daily life. They become frustrated, depressed, annoyed and then finally – exhausted from doing nothing.
THIS IS WHERE I SHIMMY IN AND GIVE THEM THE TOOLS TO FLIP THEIR MINDSET TO SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE EXCITING. AND I WANT TO SHARE THOSE TOOLS WITH YOU TOO.
The number one thing I tell my clients to do when life is completely lacking in passion is to find excitement in the usually boring and mundane tasks of the day. Take a different route to work, try out a new cuisine, go to an exercise class you would never usually try. Get lost, learn something, make life confusing and force yourself out of your comfort zone. This is where the magic happens. Suddenly life is sort of scary, but in a thrilling way.
Next up, address the issues. If you’re feeling like you need a boost in the bedroom and you’ve lost your connection with your partner – bring it up. Get the elephant out of the room and watch the awkwardness slowly dissipate. Laugh about it. It might be uncomfortable at first to deal with stuff that has been constantly swept under the rug, but in the long run it’s 100% worth it.
My last (and favourite) tip is to get grateful. But now is the time to get more specific. Don’t keep a gratitude journal simply about everything you love in life right now. Start focusing on the things you want to improve and work out what it is about those that you are grateful for. Not happy with your health right now? Start writing down 3 things about your health that you’re grateful for every single day. Wishing you lived somewhere a little more exotic? Get journalling around the goodness in your surroundings.
Obviously, we will all hit low points in life, times when inspiration is lacking. To begin to reignite your spark for life just remember these three steps –
:: GET IT OFF YOUR CHEST
:: BE GRATEFUL
You’ve got everything you need in you to make life as thrilling and exhilarating as you wish. Don’t wait, get started NOW!”
Yours in Love,
