When life gets overwhelming, sneaking in a daily workout can seem impossible. Who wants to wake up an hour early to head to the gym? And we don’t know about you, but after a long day of work, the last thing we want to do is put on our workout clothes and go running — happy hour sounds a lot better. But working out doesn’t have to be painful. You can sneak in a workout even on the busiest days.
Turn Your Commute into a Workout
If you live decently near your work, instead of taking the subway or jumping in your car, bike or run to work. If you don’t want to show up to the office sweaty, then workout onthe way home instead. Grab a ride to the office in the morning, and then in the evening, jog your way home. You might be surprised to find that you get home at the same time or even faster. And, even if you’re too far away, and you can’t run or bike to work, try these simple workouts to do on the subway, train, plane, or car (if you’re not driving).
Workout while Relaxing
This might sound counter-intuitive, but while you’re watching your favorite shows at night, get in a workout during every commercial break. All you need are some dumbbells or easy exercises. Every commercial get off the couch and do some squats, pushups, or lunges instead of sitting. During a 30-minute show, you can get in up to 9 minutes of exercise, and for your hour-long programs, you can get in a solid 15-20 minutes.
Lunch Break Workout
You can sneak in a 45-minute workout over an hour-long lunch break. Just pack a small gym bag, and then, instead of just sitting at your desk, log off and go workout. Even if you don’t or can’t get sweaty, take a 30-minute walk around your office or walk up and down flights of stairs for 15 minutes and then do some yoga in a nearby park for another 15 minutes. You might be surprised what you can sneak in over lunch.
Use Competitions as Motivation
No matter how busy you are, if you know you have a marathon coming up or another type of competition, it will be easier to make working out a priority. No matter if you’re an elite or a beginner, find a competition that you can take part in that will give you the motivation you need to wake up before your snooze.
Exercise at Your Desk
We recently talked about this in our Healthy Tips. You don’t have to leave your desk to get in a workout. We particularly love doing yoga at our desks because it can work out muscle kinks and give us a little boost for the day. For some of the poses, you don’t even have to leave your chair.
No matter how busy life gets, there’s always a way to keep in shape and stay healthy. Try sneaking in a workout every day of the week. Believe us, your body will thank you for it.
