We’ve been a fan of Lesley and her team at the Goodlife Farm for years, sending donations their way to assist however much we can with the day-to-day running of activities at the farm. It’s fully self sustainable, and unfortunately no longer receives government funding.
Lesley founded the Goodlife Farm to help young people who’ve suffered the kind of abuse and neglect, she had herself.
The holistic and therapeutic approach they give to youths is founded on the principles of animal based therapy, allowing young people to develop relationships and learn to care for animals.
“Our life skills and permaculture programs focus on interaction, care-giving, and connection to not only the animals but also the environment, family, and community.
We also emphasise the healing power of good old-fashioned hard work. All of our programs can be tailored to suit individual needs.
For example, we have conducted a successful program for young people on the autistic spectrum, focusing on appropriate behaviour and social skills.”
Lesley has programs for personal development, which she runs from the farm for youths. She’s hoping to raise enough money to build a fully self sustainable cabin for farm stays. We wanted to help as much as we can, and we encourage you to do the same.
