Pregnancy and my PCOS

| | | | | | |

For several long, emotional months I was thrown into fertility treatments that rarely worked.

I suffer PCOS.

I’m healthy weight but I have irregular cycles, suffered bad acne, dandruff and get random stray body hairs. Why can’t these things bless people with luscious locks and a radiant complexion?!

I was diagnosed months after I went off the pill in the hopes we might have a baby. Pretty crappy news to get when you want a baby! So for several long, emotional months I was thrown into fertility treatments that rarely worked. I learnt more about follicles, sperm, eggs, ovulation and endometrial lining in those months than I ever should have learnt in a life time! In my 7th cycle, for some unknown reason, I ended up with a 6cm ovarian cyst. I think they called it “functional” except it wasn’t functional at all; it was a bloody nuisance and actually made me miss all the little teeny tiny cysts that is PCOS!

So I took a break while the cyst resolved itself and I researched vitamins, minerals and herbs that might benefit me and I started a daily cocktail of some of them.  After about 40 days of this, I woke up at 1am to odd cramping. It was unlike anything I’d ever felt before. I had an unused pregnancy test in my drawer so I decided to use it. What’s another wasted test right?! It was faint but it was positive and I now have my beautiful Hazel.

Hazel is now 8 months old and I’m still yet to get my period and I’ve recently noticed certain signs of the PCOS returning. I hoped pregnancy would send it to the dark depths of hell but alas, it thinks itself my friend. It is not.
