Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most commonly diagnosed gynecological disorders we see in our modern world. We’re increasingly seeing more and more women presenting with PCOS in the clinic who have been told that solutions are limited.

PCOS occurs due to hormonal irregularities that lead to many ‘cysts’ or follicles developing on the ovaries. Ordinarily in a healthy functioning woman, only several follicles will be present on the ovaries each month and when the most mature one develops (commonly known as the ‘egg’), it breaks away from the ovary, resulting in ovulation. For women with PCOS, this doesn’t always happen regularly, as these follicles secrete small amounts of hormone necessary for ovulation. Since women with PCOS show many of these follicles present on the ovaries (hence the name poly cystic), the hormone levels are elevated and the body can be fooled into thinking it has already ovulated, meaning for some with PCOS, they experience irregular menstrual cycles or amenorrhea. Because these women have higher levels of testosterone in the body due to the hormone imbalance, they can often show other symptoms including weight gain, facial hair, and crazy hormones to name a few. It’s also very commonly diagnosed when coming off the pill due to hormone dysfunction. So you see, it all comes back to hormonal imbalance.

Fortunately Chinese Medicine does a fantastic job of balancing hormones and treating PCOS. As you have now discovered, the gut is the pivot of our health. When the gut is working well, many ailments begin to disappear. This is because suddenly the digestive system can fulfill its job of assimilating food and pulling the nutrients out, to then go on to fuel the rest of our body, hormones included.

  1. Fertility isn’t just about babies – it is having a healthy reproductive system, and happy hormones. That means free from illness like PCOS or Endometriosis.

  1. By maximizing reproductive function, you automatically treat other conditions like PCOS. PCOS responds very well to specific diet and lifestyle changes – especially eating as we advocate for here at your tea.

  1. Women with PCOS often show signs of insulin resistance, where their bodies have to work harder to process sugar and over time it becomes very difficult. The end result of this is weight gain.

You see, what your reproductive organs require doesn’t necessarily change between PCOS or enhancing fertility. Specific ingredients in Fertility Tea contain powerful antioxidants that help to ‘tidy up’ the mess that lifestyles may cause on our reproductive health, assisting to balance hormones. In cases of PCOS, specific minerals can be lacking in the body. Camellia Sinensis is fantastic in assisting to regulate oestrogen levels, which is often imbalanced in women with PCOS.

There are a few other factors that can really help with the treatment of PCOS. These include;

~ Keeping sugar minimal. Women with PCOS may find processing sugar very difficult, which leads to rapid weight gain. When you feel a craving coming on – I suggest boiling the kettle and making a cup of tea.

~ Sticking to a low GI diet is useful to manage PCOS

~ Keeping the thyroid happy – short bursts of exercise, small regular meals, and adequate sleep help keep hormones firing.

~ learn how to understand your signs and symptoms around ovulation, and fertility (which can be useful when ovulation is difficult to pinpoint with PCOS).

Being diagnosed with PCOS can be daunting and you may feel like there aren’t many solutions – but what we know is PCOS responds very well to diet and lifestyle changes, keeping weight down and digestion at its best, which is why Your Tea blends are the perfect companion!
